Making this recipe is time consuming
You may store overnight in the fridge

This is a great family recipe. It is time consuming but can be stored in the fridge overnight. We like to bring it on camping trips with us because it makes a nice warm meal. It makes a great winter meal.
Cook until golden:
1/4 cup oil
1 large onion, chopped
Add and brown:
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 pounds ground chuck
Add:
2-3 Tbsp chili powder
4 whole cloves
1 tsp basil
1 Tbsp oregano
1 tsp – 2 Tbsp crushed cumin seed
1 Tbsp Hungarian paprika (The hot variety only if you like spicy food)
1 green pepper, chopped
2 pounds Italian plum tomatoes with liquid
16 oz can tomato paste
2 cups water
2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
When ready to serve, add:
3 cans red beans
Bring to a boil. Cook, partly covered and stirring frequently for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Refrigerate 24 hours; remove fat. When ready to serve, stir in 45 oz (3 cans) of rinsed red beans. Serve with grated cheese, oyster crackers, sour cream, and cooked elbow macaroni.
